How do I know my tires need replacing?

There’s no hard and fast rule on how long tires last, so it’s important to monitor your tire tread to know when your tires need replacing. Tire tread consists of the deep grooves and patterns that you see on your tires. As these grooves become worn (typically down to 2/32”), your tires will begin performing poorly and need replacing. A quick trick to measure tread depth is the Penny Test. Place a penny in your tires with Lincoln’s head facing down. If the top of his head disappears, this means you likely have at least 2/32” of tread remaining.

How long do tires usually last?

Tires wear at different rates depending on your driving habits, vehicle model, road conditions, and the type of tire. Additionally, regular maintenance items such as tire rotations and alignments can help improve the lifespan of your tires. That being said, you can expect your tires to last anywhere from 30,000 to 60,000 miles. Regardless of mileage, you should always inspect your tires regularly - especially if you’ve had them for 5 or more years. At Nalley Ford, our multi-point inspection includes inspecting your tires and measuring tread depth.

How much will new tires cost?

It’s no secret that tires are one of the more costly vehicle maintenance items. However, for safety reasons, it’s never a good idea to prolong tire replacement. The cost to replace the tires on your Ford will vary based on the size, brand, and type of tire you choose. Generally, a set of 4 tires will start somewhere around $450. It’s typical that larger tires are more expensive, as well as performance tires. To help you save on your next tire replacement service, we offer frequent tire promotions, as well as price matching on local competitors - just ask our service center for details!
